Barberry
 

The scientific name of barberry is berberis vulgavis and it is also called Vurzaj or Vurzak inPersian. It's an evergreen shrub of deciduous species from 1-5 m tall with thorny shoots. It has reddish fragile branches, sometimes brow or yellow. It has egg-shaped leaves scratchy around the edges and small red fruits in the form of clusters with sourly flavor

It is one of the first shrubs to blossom in spring. Flowering takes place from late spring to the early summer. The yellow flowers become bright red before falling in the autumn

 

Iran is the top barberries-producer country in the world, the South Khorasan and Qaen provinces are the most important areas where about 97% of total cultivation and production of barberries is concentrated
